Coros Apex straps & accessories – all models

A Coros Apex is a robust precision instrument, often constructed from premium materials such as titanium and sapphire crystal. This extra durability also means it is marginally heavier than watches designed purely for road running. To get the most out of your watch during demanding outdoor activities, you need a watch strap that balances the weight across your wrist, prevents the watch from slipping during sweaty climbs, and ensures the heart rate sensor maintains constant contact with your skin.

Material and fit

The optical sensor in your Apex relies on a stable position, particularly when your arms are swinging vigorously whilst skiing, climbing with poles or running downhill over roots and rocks. A woven textile strap with a stepless fastening allows you to fine-tune the fit down to the nearest millimetre, locking the watch securely onto your wrist whilst allowing your skin to breathe beneath thick layers of shell jackets and base layers. Silicone straps, on the other hand, offer built-in stretch and a grippy surface that prevents a heavier case from rotating on your arm.

Activity and lifestyle

Your choice of strap makes a big difference depending on the type of outdoor environment you’re in. If you’re planning a long hike lasting several days where you’ll be sleeping outdoors and never taking the watch off, then a soft fabric strap is the best choice as it follows the movements of your wrist without creating pressure points in your sleeping bag. If your training often involves ice, mud, snow or running across marshes, we recommend a robust silicone strap. Silicone absorbs neither dirt nor water, doesn’t freeze during sub-zero sessions and can easily be rinsed clean in the nearest stream.

Protect and prepare your Apex: Screen protectors, cases and spare chargers

Although the Apex series boasts exceptional battery life and is usually fitted with scratch-resistant glass, there are situations where extra protection is essential. If you’re climbing in rocky terrain where direct rock impacts are a constant risk, a model-specific case and an extra screen protector provide affordable insurance against costly damage. For those setting off on week-long off-grid expeditions, an extra charging cable – securely packed in a waterproof bag alongside your power bank – is essential to ensure your GPS navigation lasts the whole way home.

Frequently asked questions about Coros Apex straps

What strap width should I choose for my Coros Apex?

The Apex series uses different fastenings depending on the size of the case. The Coros Apex 42mm and the newer Apex 2 use 20mm-wide straps. However, if you have the larger Coros Apex 46mm or the flagship Apex 2 Pro, you’ll need a 22mm-wide strap. How easy is it to change the watch strap whilst out and about?

Our straps are fitted with standardised quick-release fastenings. This means you don’t need any tools to change the strap. Simply pull the small metal pin on the back of the strap to the side, unhook the old strap and click the new one into place. This makes it easy to quickly switch from a damp training strap to a dry strap for your tent.

How do I clean my strap after a muddy trail run?

A silicone strap is the easiest to look after; simply rinse it under running water or in a lake and wipe it dry on your shirt. If you’re using a woven fabric strap, the mud will seep into the fibres. Remove the fabric strap from the watch, soak it in warm water with a little washing-up liquid or soap, scrub gently with your fingers and leave it to air-dry thoroughly overnight.

Can fabric straps withstand rain and river crossings?

Yes, synthetic fabric and nylon straps are not damaged by moisture and are excellent for all outdoor activities. However, you should be aware that the fabric absorbs water and will remain wet for a while after you’ve reached dry land. If you’re moving in environments where you’re constantly switching between water and land, silicone is often a more convenient choice, as it dries instantly.
